Nicole Resist (Switzerland) celebrated her 32nd birthday in grand fashion early this morning—her crew sang “happy birthday” for her as she rolled under the finish arch here at City Dock in Annapolis as the sole finisher in the women’s under 50 age category. She posted a time of 11 days, 14 hours and 15 minutes for an average speed of 11.39 mph. Though Reist said through a crew member who translated that she merely came to RAAM to finish, many expected a strong performance from her based on her victories in Tortour (the Swiss version of RAAM) the past two years. The last two Swiss women to do RAAM, Isabel Pulver last year andTrix Zgraggen in 2012, were also a Tortour winners. Along with Tortour Reist also won the Race Around Austria in 2013 and 2012 and was Ultrabike Marathon World Champion 2007 and 2014.

Through her crew member Reist told RAAM Media that she enjoyed her experience of the past 11 days, “It was fun, but it was also hard. She had her ups and downs just like every rider has. But she was also pleased with her race and with the team. She said we did a good job and we were a big help for her. She trained for RAAM for 11 years. That’s why she’s standing here!”

In closing, she was asked if now that RAAM is over, was she was looking forward to any specific food, to which she responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!” Based on the incredibly good looking cheese cake we saw her crew with, her post-race and birthday celebration started off well.
